Support 4 Young Men through the Smiles/ Fleck Raffle

Community members are hosting a raffle to benefit 4 terrific young men in our community as they get their footing after significant tragedies. Most of you personally know that 2 local families – the Smiles family and the Fleck family – have suffered the great loss of their fathers this year. Each father was survived by two teenage boys. Please consider buying a ticket to help support these fine young men as they journey through life amidst this unexpected sorrow.

You can be a part of the community support by purchasing a raffle ticket. There are many great prizes in this raffle. Well over 40 prizes, including cash and gun prizes. Each ticket is $20 and includes a raffle ticket for all the prizes, as well as for food and beverages at the drawing. Must be 18 to buy a ticket.

Several community members are selling the tickets. I do know that you can purchase them at The Garden on Pennsylvania Ave., down the road from Sheetz.

The drawing will take place on October 15, 2016 at the American Legion in Centre Hall.
Doors open at 3:00p.m.
Drawing time: 4:00p.m.
You do not need to be present to win.

Consider joining us as we rally around these families. Community support will mean so much to these young men – now, and in the future.

Our Saturday Trip to the Farmer’s Market

Every Saturday, stop by the American Legion in Millheim to meet area farmers and enjoy their local food – from cheese to meat and kale to carrots. Open from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. our local Farmer’s Market is a wonderful outing to add to your weekend meandering. Oh, and the added bonus of our particular Farmer’s Market is the community garden. Look for the passionate gardeners who are extremely knowledgeable and helpful in all-things-homegrown from herbs to honeybees.

This Saturday, I stocked up on eggs, replenished our maple syrup, couldn’t resist the beautiful beets, and snagged a few herbs for the empty pots on our deck.

On my way home from the Market, I stopped at The Garden in Centre Hall (open every day from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.). We’ve been loving their peaches and corn. And, of course, I couldn’t resist this ginormous melon! I’ll probably serve cantaloupe boats for breakfast tomorrow morning.

Add “Farmer’s Market” to your calendar for next Saturday!

Raise Funds for Your Nonprofit: The Festival of Trees

A few Merry Millheim’s ago, we found our way to the restored, historic Millheim Theatre on Penn Street and opened the front door to The Festival of Trees. We had no idea that we were in for an unforgettable classic Christmas treat! (One that supports our local nonprofits, no less!)

Countless people – from near and far – consider The Festival of Trees a “must-see” during Merry Millheim. It’s a special opportunity to enjoy the charming atmosphere of the The Millheim Theatre, to appreciate the creative Christmas decorations, and to support local nonprofits.

If your nonprofit is looking for a way to raise funds and exposure this holiday season, join Merry Millheim’s popular Festival of Trees!

It’s as easy as decorating a wreath.

Here’s what you need to know:

The 2015 Festival of Trees: The Three Kings will spotlight three majestic Christmas trees on the stage along with a working train set. The rest of the auditorium will be adorned with wreaths decorated by our nonprofit community. The wreaths will be for sale via a silent auction during the Merry Millheim event.

For $30 your group will receive a 14” Fraser Fir wreath that you will decorate and then return to The Millheim Theatre for display.

You will pick up the wreath on Monday, November 30th and then return it by Thursday, December 3rd. You can decorate the wreath to show your group’s mission and/or to reflect the holiday season.

Along with the wreath, we want you to decorate a box to be used to collect donations for your group. The box will be displayed with your wreath’s silent auction bid sheet. Your group will get 100% of its final purchase price of the wreath along with whatever is earned in the donation box.

This year The Millheim Theatre’s main beneficiary for the event will be Millheim’s Boy Scout Troop 88. Members of this organization work very hard to make this event possible, so we wanted to thank them. They will be receiving $12.50 of your original wreath purchase price. They will also be selling their homemade chicken corn chowder soup during the Merry Mill- heim event, something we hope will attract even more visitors, and can also be a treat for all of us at the event!

There are only 30 wreaths available, and they are going quickly. So, contact Cyndy and Mark today to secure your nonprofit’s spot at the area’s delightful Festival of Trees:

PO BOX 398 • MILLHEIM, PA 16854 • (814) 349-0911 • [email protected]
