How to Have a “Small Town” Day

(The girls enjoying bubbles at The Centre Hall Elementary School Carnival. Small pleasures!)

We’ve discovered that many people are exhausted by the hubbub of “the big city”.

So we suggest that you declare a “small town” day, putz around the Valley, and enjoy some of these charming ideas:

1. Get your hair cut at The Barber Shop. Count on the best haircut around in a relaxing, vintage atmosphere. It’s the real deal.

2. Check a book out from The Centre Hall Area Branch Library. It’s the darling-est library you’ve ever seen and works in conjunction with the Centre County Library System, so you can use your library card and return your book to any of the Centre County libraries.  Librarian Kim Bair has enriched the children’s department with many high quality educational books and equipment. Ask about them at the circulation desk.

3. Go for a swim at the Millheim Pool. Instead of staring at plastic slides, while you splash about, you’ll look out at gorgeous mountains and maybe even see a cow grazing on the other side of the fence. Millheim Pool is simple, clean, and inexpensive with a wonderful little baby pool and a full-size lap pool and diving well. A classic swimming experience.

4. Bring home a delicious local dinner. On your way home from the pool, stop by the Millheim Meat Market for the best, most delicious, freshest, healthiest meat. We have loved every single purchase we have ever made at the Meat Market. Then, stop by The Garden or a produce stand for fruit, veggies, and a dozen eggs.

‘Tis the season for many wonderful visitors from State College, Lewistown, and beyond. State College Magazine recently published a great piece about the small lesser-known treasures in the Valley, mentioning many of our favorite spots. welcomes you!

We want everyone – tourists and locals alike – to thoroughly enjoy our community.

Take a look at the list in the magazine, snag some ideas from our Penns Valley Bucket List, and enjoy our beautiful, beautiful community!

 Enjoy your home,
