When I moved to central PA in the fall of 2000, I was flabbergasted by the piles of camo overalls stacked up in WalMart. It was official: I was in the country where folks like them some huntin’. Over the years, I’ve come to learn more about the hunting culture: I’ve prayed for my friend’s husband to come home with a buck, I’ve admired photos of dead deer, turkeys, and who-knows-what-else, and I’ve even tasted some hearty venison stew.
I just heard that Charles Alsheimer will be coming to town this weekend. You probably know this already, but Alsheimer is a photographer and writer for many hunting magazines. You’ve probably seen and admired his photos of white-tailed deer. He’s got stories to tell and hunting tips to share. He’ll be speaking on Friday night at the free Sportsman Dinner to celebrate the hunting culture in our community. This event is sponsored by PVCC (Penns Valley Community Church).
