Welcome to the 12 Days of Christmas: Penns Valley Gift Guide! Each day, from November 26 – December 7, we’ll be highlighting a local business where you might find “just the right” treasures to give friends and family. Let’s give back to our community this Christmas: buy local!
Last week, we found our “it’s perfect!” Fraser Fir Christmas Tree at Tannenbaum Farms. My husband and I have trekked out to 161 McCool Road, Centre Hall ever since our dating years (we were so young!) and we’re happy to keep it a family tradition.
It’s worth going for the historical significance alone: according to their website, they are Central Pennsylvania’s Largest Cut-Your-Own Christmas tree farm!
(A future lumberjack looks on as Daddy cuts down the tree… By the way, if you’ve never cut your own tree down, it’s not as difficult as it sounds. You can do it!)
Once your tree is ready to go, take a look at their beautiful fresh greens. (Perhaps a wonderful gift for a neighbor’s front door?)
Inside the shop, you’ll find a selection of quaint hand-carved ornaments and decorations, crafted by a family friend of the farm. Last year, we found our 2011 ornaments in this shop. We had proclaimed 2011 as “The Year of the Horse” because the girls fell in love with horses and spent most of their year galloping around the house, imagining their bikes could whinny, begging for a real-live horse, and so on. We knew right away that the two hand-carved horses (one with wings!) would be the perfect addition to our family tree.
If you go:
